R is for Resistance

Another way to increase the load on a bone is to use resistance. We’ve not used the resistance bands for much active loading yet but it’s all in the pipeline.

The bands are really good at showing the relationship between the muscles and the bones. Do you think of the band as your muscles and your hand holding the band as your bone? An exercise that uses a muscle will pull on the bone that the muscle is attached to, and this is what those impacts I was talking about in early posts are all about. The bones go ouch and kick into remodelling mode.

Did you know that the different colours of bands usually relate to the different strengths of the bands? So, although I would love for us all to use purple bands for some exercises, we might have to use a lighter band and thus a colour that’s not our favourite.
